2 Hour Workshop

Hello my name is: Anu Lala, I am Registered Art Therapist and Registered Psychotherapist, I have been practicing in Toronto for the past 22 years.


What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy which facilitates self-expression through the use of Art. Emotions, thoughts, and wishes are expressed symbolically through the creation of personal images and objects. The Art which is produced becomes a source of communication through which one can reflect upon and work through areas of conflict and distress.


Unexpressed feelings such as anger, sadness and fear often lead to poor concentration, anxiety, depression, problematic behavior and illness. Art therapy provides a suportive non judgemental enviroment where feelings can be expressed and understood.

The emphasis is not on the Art itself, but on the creative process. With the guidance of the Art therapist, the client is encouraged to explore the meaning of the images and interpret the Art and its derivation process.

While doing therapy I draw from an eclectic blend of approaches including:

  • Psychodynamic
  • Strength based
  • Existential
  • Narrative

Having specialized in working with diverse populations for the past 22 years, my work is strongly grounded in anti-racist, anti-homophobic, and anti-oppressive principles.
